(2009–present)
As of 2 February 2009, Muse had already made it into the studio and begun recording at least one song for their upcoming album. On microcuts.net, a news headline stated that the album was slated for a September 2009 release, and a new tour of France, and probably most of Europe, was to follow in the autumn. In an interview with BBC 6 Music, Bellamy commented that the album is to show distinct classical influences, and that it's "all very orchestral". On 22 May 2009, the band announced through their website and Twitter that the title of their new album would be The Resistance and that one of the track titles would be "United States of Eurasia". On 16 June 2009, the official release date of The Resistance was announced on the band's website. The album is scheduled to be released 14 September this year. The first single will be "Uprising".
On 2 June 2009, the band announced through e-mails, and their website, that they would begin a tour of Europe, and the UK, beginning on 22 October 2009, atHartwall Arena, Finland, and ending on 4 December, at Pala Olimpico, Turin, Italy, and including two nights at London's O2 Arena. A full list of tour dates can be found at their official website. This tour had completely sold out their UK 95,000 allocated tickets within minutes from the general onsale at 9 a.m. on 5 June.
On 14 July 2009, it was announced that the band will play their first televised United States performance at the MTV Video Music Awards on 13 September 2009, performing Uprising.
Starting on 15 July 2009 and as of 19 July 2009, five sections of the song United States of Eurasia out of six were unlocked in the viral game 'Ununited States of Eurasia' on Muse's official website. The five sections have been pasted together and, thus, about three minutes of the song can be heard. On the 20th of July, the 6th part was found, but the song is still incomplete (on the track listing it is over 5 minutes) now the viral game has been introduced to the USA, with the official website asking for 'recognition' from the USA to help complete the song. The song received its first airplay on KXLL by Joe Ellis on the (19th July 2009). This was shortly followed by BBC Radio 1, played firstly on Zane Lowe's evening show (20th July 2009) and then on Jo Whiley's show the following morning.
The song United States of Eurasia is now available for download along with Collateral Damage at the official Muse website.Lowe played approximately 36 seconds of Uprising on 28 July 2009, ahead of its first full airplay on 3 August 2009 at 7:30pm BST. This was the only clip made available to Radio 1 at the time. On 3 August, several Radio Stations decided to air Uprising.
